Vintage Omega Bumper Automatic, Two-tone Radium Dial, Ref. 2438-2 from 1944
This Omega Bumper Automatic from 1944 is a fantastic example of early automatic watchmaking, featuring the Caliber 28.10 R.A.SC.PC—one of Omega’s first self-winding movements. The bumper movement design, which uses a semi-rotating weight with spring-loaded buffers, adds a distinctive mechanical feel that collectors appreciate.
Housed in a 32.5mm stainless steel case, the watch retains its original radium dial (if you are concerned with safety of the radium, please read our article), which has aged beautifully over time. The applied Arabic numerals and raised hour markers, combined with a railroad minute track, give the dial a clean yet highly legible appearance. The hands, originally coated with radium, have developed a rich patina, adding to the watch’s vintage appeal.
