A striking example of 1940s Swiss watchmaking, this Longines ref. 4179 showcases the brand’s interpretation of the Calatrava aesthetic, housed in a beautifully proportioned 35 mm stainless steel stepped case—an elegant design echoing the style made famous by Patek Philippe during the same era.
The dial is a glossy black sector configuration, featuring luminous Arabic numerals and syringe hands, both with lume that has aged gracefully over time. While we cannot confirm whether the dial has ever been professionally restored in the past, it presents today in overall very good condition, showing no obvious signs of tampering, with rich gloss and a strong vintage character intact.
Powering this piece is the renowned Longines Caliber 12.68Z, a manual-winding movement that was one of the workhorses of the brand's mid-century lineup. The movement bears the serial number 5974364, dating production to circa 1940—a period when Longines was producing some of its most collectible tool and dress watches.
