Vintage Kirovskie Crab Lugs, Cream Honeycomb Dial, Cal. 2408, First Moscow Watch Factory, Soviet Watch
This vintage Kirovskie comes from the First Moscow Watch Factory (1MChZ) and dates to the late 1950s or early 1960s - the final years of the brand before it was consolidated under the Poljot name in 1964. Among Soviet vintage watches, the Kirovskie "crab" is one of the most recognizable, named after its distinctive sculpted lugs that flare outward from the case like claws. It is a design collectors seek out specifically, and original examples are becoming harder to find.
The 35mm chrome-plated case wears comfortably with a 43mm lug-to-lug measurement, well proportioned by both vintage and modern standards. The cream dial is the highlight here: a honeycomb-textured center medallion framed by a smooth chapter ring carrying full gilt Arabic numerals, with a fine printed minute track at the edge. The gilt leaf-shaped hands and sweep second match the numerals, and the whole dial has taken on a warm, even tone with only light age spotting - honest patina that suits a watch of this era.
Inside is the caliber 2408, a hand-wound movement with 16 jewels, a central sweep second, and a beat rate of 18,000 vibrations per hour. It was a thin, modern caliber for its time and remains a straightforward, serviceable workhorse — part of why these watches survive in running order decades later.
