This Oyster Perpetual ref. 6565/6552 is peak old-school Rolex - in the best way, and the dial is where things get really interesting. It’s a rare two-tone layout with a clear split between the central disc with circular brushing and the outer ring, something you almost never see compared to standard single-color Oyster Perpetual dials. The warm silver-cream tone has aged evenly and naturally, which is exactly what collectors want to see. The minute markers are placed on the inner ring, facing inside - super uncommon for Rolex. The elongated applied hour markers, and the minimal text, and you’ve got a dial that looks simple at first glance, but more you're looking at it - more details you notice.

Inside is the automatic caliber 1030 T, one of Rolex’s early self-winding movements, built tough and meant to last. Finding another example like this today is extremely hard. For reference, a similar watch sold at a Swiss auction back in 2006 for 7,100 CHF, which says a lot about how long this reference has been on collectors’ radar.

About Brand

What makes Rolex an important vintage watch brand?

Rolex, founded in 1905, is one of the most influential and recognizable names in Swiss watchmaking. In the vintage watch market, Rolex is valued for its robust construction, innovative waterproof cases, and long-lasting mechanical movements. Vintage Rolex watches combine functional tool-watch heritage with timeless design, making them highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Why is Rolex significant in vintage watch history?

Rolex introduced many innovations that shaped modern wristwatches, including the Oyster waterproof case and the Perpetual self-winding movement. Throughout the mid-20th century, Rolex produced professional watches for divers, pilots, explorers, and scientists. Early Submariner, GMT-Master, and Explorer models are now regarded as foundational references in vintage watch history.

Are vintage Rolex watches suitable for everyday wear?

Yes. Many vintage Rolex watches were designed as professional tool watches intended for demanding daily use. Models powered by movements such as the caliber 1030, 1530, 1570, and 1575 are known for their durability and precision. With proper servicing, a vintage Rolex watch can be worn regularly while maintaining its value as a collectible vintage watch.

What should collectors look for when buying a vintage Rolex watch?

When purchasing a vintage watch from Rolex, originality is crucial. Collectors should pay close attention to:

  • Original dial with correct fonts, lume, and printing

  • Correct case reference and movement combination

  • Matching serial and reference numbers

  • Period-correct bezel, crown, and bracelet

Original condition and untouched components significantly influence the value of vintage Rolex watches.

Which vintage Rolex models are most collectible?

Some of the most desirable vintage Rolex watches include:

  • Submariner references such as 5512, 5513, and 1680

  • GMT-Master references 6542 and 1675

  • Daytona chronographs, including early manual-wind models

  • Explorer reference 1016

  • Early Datejust and Oyster Perpetual models

These watches are prized for their historical importance, rarity, and enduring design.

Are vintage Rolex watches a good investment?

Rolex is one of the strongest performers in the vintage watch market. Consistent global demand, limited supply of well-preserved examples, and strong brand recognition contribute to long-term value stability. Well-maintained vintage Rolex watches often hold or increase their value over time, especially iconic professional models.
