In 1936, the USSR signed a contract with the French “LIP” company for the supply of equipment, parts and finished movements. The first watches were called “ZIF”. Before the war, the watch brand was renamed in “Zvezda”. Later the watches were produced by the Uglich watch factory «Chaika» until 1959.
