This vintage Rubin wristwatch, produced by the Chistopol Watch Factory in the 1950s, is a great example of early post-war Soviet horology. The brand name "Рубин" (Rubin, meaning "ruby") reflects the factory’s use of ruby jewels in its 17-jewel mechanical movement – specifically, the reliable caliber 2604.

Rubin watches were one of several short-lived brands developed during the 1950s as Chistopol expanded its civilian watch offerings. Most Rubin watches featured a distinctive set of red-painted hands and a dual 12/24-hour dial layout, as seen on this piece. What sets it apart are the striking red hands and numerals—a symbolic nod to the ruby itself, both in name and in design.

It’s incredibly uncommon to find a dial from this era where the red numerals have not faded with time. In this example, they have remained beautifully preserved, making the watch a true standout.

Rubin was discontinued in 1964 when Chistopol unified its output under the now-famous Vostok brand, making surviving examples like this one both collectible and historically interesting.
