Vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox, Two-tone dial, Alarm & Date, HPG, Stainless Steel, Cal. K911
This is a vintage LeCoultre Memovox, the US-market name for Jaeger-LeCoultre's pioneering mechanical alarm watch — the line that made the wrist alarm a serious complication. This example is the "Calendar Alarm" configuration, with a date window and the American-market HPG seal on the dial, short for High Precision Guaranteed.
The case is stainless steel, measuring 35.5mm across, 43.5mm lug-to-lug, and 12mm thick, with sculpted lugs and the twin crowns that define the model - the upper one sets and winds the alarm, the lower handles the time. The two-tone silver dial keeps things legible: a brushed centre, an outer minute track, faceted gilt dart markers doubled at twelve, and a date aperture at three. At the centre sits the rotating alarm disc with its triangle pointer. Markers and hands carry a warm, even patina, and the dial reads as honest and unrestored.
Inside is the manual-wind Calibre K911, signed Jaeger-LeCoultre and stamped on the bridge, 17 jewels running at 19,800 vph. The alarm hammer strikes a post on the case back, producing the unmistakable Memovox buzz that gave these watches their name. It currently wears an aftermarket brown lizard-grain strap.

Vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are valued for their mechanical excellence and understated elegance.
Why is Jaeger-LeCoultre significant in vintage watch history?
Jaeger-LeCoultre played a pivotal role in advancing watchmaking technology throughout the 20th century. The brand supplied movements to other leading Swiss manufacturers and developed ultra-thin calibers, complex complications, and innovative case designs. Watches powered by movements such as the caliber 450, caliber 470, or early caliber 8xx and 9xx families are known for their precision and smooth operation. When properly serviced, a vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watch can be worn regularly while retaining its value as a collectible vintage watch.
What should collectors look for when buying a vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watch?
When purchasing a vintage watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre, collectors should focus on originality and technical condition. Important aspects include:
-
Original dial and hands with correct proportions
-
Correct case style and movement caliber
-
Matching serial numbers where applicable

Are vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watches a good investment?
