Enicar S.A. is a Swiss watchmaking company that was founded in 1913 by Ariste Racine in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The name "Enicar" is derived from spelling "Racine" (the founder's last name) backward.
Enicar gained a reputation for producing robust and reliable timepieces. One of their notable achievements was during the 1950s and 1960s when Enicar watches were used in several expeditions. The most famous of these was the Himalayan expeditions, where their watches proved their durability under extreme conditions. This era saw the rise of the Enicar "Sherpa" models, named after the Sherpa Tenzing Norgay who, alongside Sir Edmund Hillary, conquered Mount Everest in 1953.
