Vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre Watch, Teardrop Lugs, Cal. P449, Two-Tone Dial, Oversized case from 1948
This vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre from 1948 is a great example of JLC dress watches of the late 1940s., with a distinctive teardrop lug case design. One of the most celebrated case designs in the entire history of Swiss watchmaking, the teardrop lugs is the watch that collectors seek out specifically and return to repeatedly. The stainless steel case measures 35.5mm, is genuinely oversized for its era, giving the watch balanced proportions. This example is often seen in gold cases, and stainless steel variant is rarity.
The dial has a contrasting two-tone layout with an outer minute track and a recessed sub-seconds register at 6 o’clock. Applied rose-gold Arabic numerals and dauphine hands bring warmth to the design, standing out gently.
Inside is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s manual-wind Calibre P449, fitted with the Parachoc shock protection system used by the manufacture in the post-war years. The watch remains in very good condition and is fully original, a thoughtful example of a vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre dress watch from the late 1940s.

Vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are valued for their mechanical excellence and understated elegance.
Why is Jaeger-LeCoultre significant in vintage watch history?
Jaeger-LeCoultre played a pivotal role in advancing watchmaking technology throughout the 20th century. Watches powered by movements such as the caliber 450, caliber 470, or early caliber 8xx and 9xx families are known for their precision and smooth operation. When properly serviced, a vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watch can be worn regularly while retaining its value as a collectible vintage watch.

-
Original dial and hands with correct proportions
-
Correct case style and movement caliber
-
Matching serial numbers where applicable
-

Reverso models from the 1930s–1950s

Are vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watches a good investment?
